Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary Ahmedabad – A Perfect Site to Witness a Variety of Bird Life

19 Feb

The fest season was on, and exhibitions of paintings and artworks were put up everywhere in the city. It was quite fascinating and especially for me being a nature lover, it was attractive. I had a great desire to go and glance through the paintings of people who have great hand on art. Finally, I went to the exhibition and was really excited. As I was looking through the paintings my attention was drawn towards a painting, which depicted the life of a bird in a sanctuary.

From there my journey started and I recollected my past where I had also visited the Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. I remember as my guide said that Nalsarovar is one of the largest lakes and bird sanctuaries in India. As soon as we reached, we were hit by a strong cool breeze, which refreshed us. I was taken aback by the scenic beauty. The sun had just risen and the sky was golden yellow. The lakes were sparkling among the ferns, when they were reflecting the sunrays. The soothing breeze blew and created a comfortable and peaceful environment. It gave relaxation to my mind. The soft chirping of the birds sounded melodious.

Flocks of birds were hopping from one place to another. As Nalsarovar was famous for water birds, we found birds like ducks, coots, flamingoes, kingfishers, grebes, darters, jacanas over there. After some time we found local species of birds coming after breeding. Ponds and shallow areas of outer fringes of lake had many wading birds, which feed on the shallow water.

After taking a refreshing boat ride for bird viewing, we clicked many photographs. As my kids desired, we also went for a horse ride too. We saw many reeds and aquatic plants on the banks of the lakes while the ride. After completing the ride, we ate the famous Kathiawadi food made by local people over there. Our guide gave us information about the different species of birds. It was an excellent day out for a nature lover like me. We returned to our hotel with the hope of visiting Calico Textile Museum, Gandhi Ashram, and Jama Masjid on the following day.
